Springbourne

Springbourne in Bournemouth is a large residential area with thriving business and tourist trade due to its easy access to the beach and excellent transport links. Sitting just north of Boscombe, it’s boundaries are Northcote Road to the west, Ashley Road to the east, the Wessex way to the north and the railway line to the south. The main road, Holdenhurst Road, was previously the primary route into Bournemouth from the north and north-east. It’s now bypassed by the A338 Wessex Way, but it’s still a main shopping street and with excellent transport links as well.

Springbourne is a good area for families due to its great selection of primary and secondary schools and being only a short walk to the local high street, beaches, shops and bus routes.

Springbourne has a mixed selection of property but primarily is made up of houses circa 1900’s. There’s also plenty of new modern developments offering apartment living. In quiet residential roads there’s no issues with on-road parking although it does become more difficult as you near Holdenhurst Road.

There is a popular park in Walpole road which has a range of multi play, swings, roundabouts, climbing frames, ball courts and open space play areas for ball games.
Kings Park playground offers 'Timber Tangle' wooden adventure play for toddlers to teens. It’s also home to climbing frames, swings, roundabouts, ball courts, slides, a skate park for teenagers and other facilities. There’s almost something for everyone with a Cafe, sports pitches, orienteering, athletics track, large open areas, indoor bowls and free off road parking.

AFC Bournemouth is the main attraction for the Springbourne area offering the chance to watch live premier league football games. BH Live Active in Queens Park is the closest and main fitness centre to Springbourne offering a 110 station gym, 18M pool and over 100 fitness classes to choose from. Springbourne is also home to more specialist fitness providers such as Evolution Personal Training and Fitness on Holdenhurst Road and Arena Boxing Centre on Wilson Road.

Shopping

Boscombe has a popular shopping precinct which includes a local market and a historical shopping arcade within walking distance from Boscombe Pier and beach. Holdenhurst Road offers a Tesco Express, Co-Op and Aldi for main food shopping or a few smaller shops for the bare essentials. The Sovereign Centre is main shopping venue close to Springbourne holding some of the main retailers and the bus station.

Eating out in Springbourne

There is a good variety of restaurants and takeaways. Chinese seems to be a popular choice of food followed by Indian, fish and chips and a steakhouse.

Springbourne Transport links

Springbourne benefits from great bus links running regularly into Bournemouth Town Centre and Bournemouth Train and Coach Stations. From Springbourne you can get directly to most parts of Bournemouth and Boscombe, on either a Yellow or More Bus.
