Communication the key for landlords, says RLA
Successful landlords are those who communicate well with tenants,
the Residential Landlords Association (RLA) has said.
RLA chairman Alan Ward stated that such skills enable investors to
establish who the likely good tenants are, as well as encouraging
them to keep in touch about problems arising, such as if they lose
their jobs and will have difficulties paying the rent.
Comparing this skill to offering extra elements in a property, he
remarked: "Goodies like broadband or Sky are less important than a
well-presented, fairly-priced property, but they can be valuable as
a differentiator in a competitive market."
Mr Ward also noted that putting in a tenant "requires skill and
management".
Female landlords are a group of investors that are particularly
keen to increase their holdings in the near future, a recent
National Landlords Association poll has shown.
It revealed that 62 per cent of this group are looking to expand
their portfolios in the coming 12 months.
