AMI calls for more mortgage help

The government has been called upon to implement its latest package
of support for the banking system as early as possible.
According to the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI), an
urgent approach will help ensure that the property market benefits
from an increase in lending.
Director at the body Robert Sinclair stated that the new measures
"will certainly help", but explained that many are "still in the
planning and implementation phases".
"Recent government announcements need to be given compelling
priority and their implementation accelerated," he added.
Last week the Council of Mortgage Lenders welcomed the initiatives,
which include the extension of the credit guarantee scheme, noting
that their scale could contribute to a significantly increased flow
of lending.
Meanwhile, the AMI has predicted that the property market will make
a recovery in 2009, as falling prices prompt a greater number of
people to take advantage of affordable property and trade up.
